Profile

One of South Africa’s most accomplished road cyclists, Gustav Basson has built an impressive career across local, continental, and international racing. Known for his explosive sprinting ability, tactical awareness, and consistency under pressure, he continues to deliver results across UCI tours, national championships, and elite one day racing.

Originally from Nelspruit, Gustav has claimed victories and podiums across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, including overall victories at the Challenge International du Sahara Marocain and Tour de Limpopo, stage victories at the Tour du Faso, Tour of Sakarya, and Tour of Good Hope, as well as African Continental Championship honours in the individual time trial discipline.

Since joining Tshenolo Pro Cycling Team, Gustav has continued to bring international level experience, race intelligence, and finishing power into the squad. His ability to perform across sprint finishes, stage racing, and aggressive one day racing makes him one of the strongest assets within the TPCT roster heading into the 2026 season.

Alongside his racing success, Gustav continues to mentor younger riders within the team environment while remaining one of the most respected South African riders in the continental peloton.
